Fire safety

Stair pressurisation: selection requirements

Review pressure differentials, door-opening scenarios, controls and fan duty-point curves when selecting a stair pressurisation system.

The system protects an escape route against smoke entry while accounting for open doors, opening forces and air leakage.

System design

The fire engineer establishes pressure differences, required air velocities and open-door scenarios under the code and edition adopted for the project. Controls commonly include pressure sensing, fan-speed control and suitable pressure relief.

Selection documents

Review the fan curve at the duty point, control logic, power supplies, commissioning tests and fire-alarm integration. A high-airflow fan or a single standard citation does not establish compliance of the complete system.

General guidance; the project designer and manufacturer must confirm suitability.
