Specialist ventilation

Hospital ventilation considerations

Fan selection considerations for hospitals: room function, filter classification and pressure loss, airflow, cleanability and controls.

Selection starts with room function, infection-control requirements and the project’s adopted code, rather than a fan name alone.

Filtration and pressure

F7 is not equivalent to H13. HEPA classifications and tests differ from general ventilation filter classifications. Specify the filter class and supporting test documents in the design, including clean-filter and replacement-limit pressure losses.

Before choosing a model

Check required flow, external pressure, noise, cleanability and controls. A specialist designer must establish room pressure relationships, outdoor-air rates and isolation requirements. A filtered fan box alone does not establish suitability for an operating theatre or isolation room.

General guidance; the project designer and manufacturer must confirm suitability.
